Union Man Hanover In Exhibition Feature
Rail-starter Union Man Hanover took the lead early and led his competition around the track to take the $1,350 Winners-Over feature pace at Exhibition Park Raceway on Saturday, July 7.
The nine-year-old son of Artiscape grabbed control while odds-on favourite Instant Shadow sat the pocket through a :29.2 opening quarter. Unchallenged by the half in 1:00.2, Union Man Hanover continued to lead Instant Shadow as the public choice tipped off the rail in pursuit of the front, stalling by three-quarters in 1:29.1. Union Man Hanover opened a three-length lead into the stretch and expanded that margin to four-and-one-half lengths at the wire, winning in 1:58 over Instant Shadow in second while Chasen Cancun finished three lengths back in third.
Owned by driver Dr. Mitchell Downey, trainer Ellen Stevenson and Andre Moeller, Union Man Hanover won for the fifth time in 19 starts this season and for the 38th time in 182 overall. He paid $10.80 to win.
