Rookies were out in full force during Monday’s 10-race card at Woodbine Mohawk Park, as pacers sparred in a set of overnight events and trotters tussled earlier on the program.

The regally-bred Prescient Beauty won at first asking for Team McNair and owner/breeder Jim Avritt of Lebanon, KY.

The daughter of Art Major-Precious Beauty got away third while Summer Charm lined them up through an opening quarter clocked in :29.4. Doug McNair hit the accelerator in the backstretch, and in a matter of strides Prescient Beauty was in command of the tempo. She sped through middle splits of :59.1 and 1:27.4 before finishing them off with a :27.3 closing quarter. She drew clear to win by 4-3/4 lengths in 1:55.2 over Summer Charm. Church Bells was third.

The rookie is a full-sister to Precocious Beauty (1:50.1 - $869,920) and a three-quarter sister to Sportswriter (1:48.3 - $1,649,411).

Linnea erupted for a 15-1 upset in her $14,000 assignment for trainer Harry Poulton and driver Sylvain Filion.

The daughter of Sportswriter-Mysticaliscape got away sixth and watched Topsill Beach and Warrawee Ulla take turns on the lead through fractions of :28, :57 and 1:25.4. Linnea slipped off the rail in the backstretch and found herself third over while racing sixth on the outside at the three-quarter pole. She uncorked a :28.1 closing kick in the lane, and that was enough to earn her the half-length score over Kylie Seelster in 1:55.1. Crisp Mane finished third.

Thestable Linnea Group of Guelph, Ont. owns the pacing lass who was a $29,000 purchase from last year’s London Selected Yearling Sale.

Dream Nation was a popular winner in his debut for trainer Jacques Dupont, who watched Louis Philippe Roy guide the son of Archangel-Mississippi Dream to a 1:59.1 victory in a $14,000 trotting tilt.

Roy tucked the colt into a five-hole early while A Royal Line marched to the lead from Post 10 and chopped out panels of :28.3, :59.4 and 1:30.1. Charmbo Golden came first-over in the backstretch and Dream Nation was able to slip out and catch that foe’s cover. Dream Nation then swung out three-wide coming off the final turn and used a :28.1 closing panel to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Charmbo Golden in 1:59.1. Final Answer tagged along to finish third.

Sent off as the even-money favourite, Dream Nation scored the win for Les Ecuries Dorleans Inc, Ecurie CSL, Gestion C Levesque 2005inc and Marc Camirand. The rookie was a $42,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale.
