Copley's Crew Clicks For Hat Trick
Trainer Jamie Copley celebrated a three-win performance Thursday evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and in doing so he finds himself just five wins back of conditioner Yves Tessier in the race for the track’s training title in 2018.
Copley, who started the night with 27 wins over the oval, paired up with Richard Simard to capture Race 4 with Warrawee Time. The gelding rallied in first-over fashion and stopped the teletimer in 1:56.3.
Copley clicked with stablemate Wage Writer – another three-year-old son of Sportswriter – in Race 7. The gelding led the field through fractions of :28.4, 1:00 and 1:28.1 before kicking home in :28.3 to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.4.
P L Jasmine gave the trainer his third win on the card thanks to a come-from-behind score in Race 9. Guy Gagnon came first-over with the mare who used a :28.4 kicker to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:55.2.
Copley is five wins shy of 1,100 lifetime training victories, and he’s quickly closing in on $5.3 in career purse earnings.
