Preferred Upset For Terra Cotta Lad
Terra Cotta Lad didn’t get a lot of pari-mutuel support in Monday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers at Grand River Raceway, but that didn’t stop him from finding his way to victory lane in the seven-horse affair.
Sent out by owner/trainer Claude Girard, Terra Cotta Lad got away fifth from the rail while Shadow Moon and Drake battled past the quarter pole in :28.2. Shadow Moon made the lead, but came under immediate pressure from Toot Toot N. They waged war to the half in :57.1 and past the three-quarter pole in 1:26.1.
Terra Cotta Lad had his switch flipped by driver Robert Shepherd on the way to the three-quarter pole, and the pacer’s three-wide speed was enough to earn him the neck decision over Sure Please in 1:56.1. Toot Toot N survived the rugged trip to finish a lapped-on third.
Sent off at odds of 12-1, the six-year-old son of Ameripan Gigolo-Terra Cotta Lady improved this year’s record to 3-5-1 from 21 starts with the win. The 21-time winner has racked up more than $94,000 in lifetime earnings.
