Ramblinglily Repeats In Charlottetown
A late break in stride by Shadows Mystery sealed the deal for Ramblinglily to win her second straight Fillies and Mares Open pace Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Shadows Mystery was sent hard off the gate by driver Dale Spence to acquire the early lead in the $2,350 event with Ramblinglily also leaving well from post 7 to sit second. Fate was then in Ramblinglily’s favour as Shadows Mystery made a break in stride racing towards three-quarters, handing over the lead to the Gary Chappell driven Ramblinglily en route to a 1:56.2 victory. Second went to West River Ambyr (Driven by Steven Shepherd) with Collective Wisdom (Gilles Barrieau) third.
The winning mare is co-owned and trained by Allan Jones along with fellow New Brunswick co-owner Normand Leger.
Osprey Impact delivered as the favourite in the $1,950 Open trot in 1:59.1 for the team of driver Walter Cheverie and owner-trainer Paul Larrabee. Freddie (Marc Campbell) was second while Holy Molie Maggie completed the Trifecta.
Campbell had three wins on the weekday program as he inches closer to win number 2,000 of his career. The Winsloe driver now sits at 1,996 lifetime victories after winning with Izzies Angel in 1:58.4 for trainer Terry Gallant of Summerside, Scoot Out Of Here in 2:00.1 for trainer Vaughn Doyle of Charlottetown and Bignprecious in 1:57.2 for Garth Cole of Kensington.
Tobinator won the top conditioned pace of the evening in 1:57.4 with Corey MacPherson at the controls in the $2,200 class for trainer Trevor Hicken and owner William Hicken of Vernon Bridge.
Live racing continues Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
