Rambling Lily Repeats In Charlottetown
Ramblinglily mastered the art of winning races last season as noted by her 10-for-24 record, and she’s come out of the blocks quickly to begin her 2018 campaign.
The photogenic Ramblinglily rallied to a 1:56.3 triumph in Thursday’s $2,350 Fillies & Mares Open at the Charlottetown Driving Park, and in doing so she’s a perfect 2-for-2 to start the year.
Prettyndangerous carved out splits of :28.1, :58.3 and 1:27.4 in the featured event, with Ramblinglily on her helmet every step of the way. Gary Chappell found racing room for the Allan Jones trainee in the lane, and Ramblinglily used a :28.3 closing kick to win by 1-1/4 lengths over West River Ambyr in 1:56.3. Taking home third prize was Julep Hanover.
Allan Jones shares ownership on the eight-year-old daughter of Articulator-Crafty Jewel with Normand Leger of Shediac, NB. Together, they’ve watched the distaffer rack up 58 lifetime wins and purses in excess of $172,000.
Earlier on the card in the $1,800 Open Trot it was Freddie coming away victorious for trainer/driver Marc Campbell in 1:58.1.
Frill Seeker shot to the lead and led the field through fractions of :29.3 and :59.1 before being overtaken by the first-over Freddie at the three-quarter pole in 1:29.1. Freddie then used a :29-second closing quarter to draw clear by 3-1/4 lengths over heavily-favoured Osprey Impact in 1:58.1. Holy Molie Maggie was third.
The Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston, PE owns the six-year-old son of Majestic Son-Circe Hanover. It was his first win of the season and the 38th of his career. The lion’s share of the purse bumped his overall cash stash over $120,000 to date.
