Woodmere Finesse Wins Truro Feature
Four-year-old pacing mare Woodmere Finesse defeated her male rivals with a front-gliding score over a sloppy track in Friday night's top class at Truro Raceway.
Leaving from post two in the $1,675 Winners Over Pace, Woodmere Finesse and trainer/driver Bernard McCallum parked out Distinctiv Rusty (Robert Laffin), last week's winner, through the first turn and forced that foe to the pocket spot by the :28.4 quarter mark. She continued to lead the way through middle splits of :59.3 and 1:28.4 while rebuffing first-over challenger Jackson K Down (Stephen Mason). Woodmere Finesse pulled clear turning for home and opened up four lengths down the lane to score the victory in 1:58.1. Distinctiv Rusty finished over Catch Twenty Two (Darren Crowe), who closed off cover to show.
McCallum trains Woodmere Finesse, who has won three of her five starts so far this year, for owner Edward Maher of Lower Sackville, N.S. The Articulator-Woodmere Teardrop mare now sports a career record reading 9-8-7 from 37 starts with more than $50,000 in earnings.
