Lady Slipper Stakes At Summerside

The Lady Slipper Stakes took center stage Wednesday night at the Summerside Raceway with Meridian Magic, under the command of trainer Kenny Arsenault, surviving a first-over trip to post the fastest clocking of the night in the $21,000 Gold division for two-year-old filly pacers

.

The daughter of Largo-Hot Asset sat third until moving first-up before the half en route to a 1:59.3 score by one and three-quarter lengths. J J Solara (Clare MacDonald) and Texas Star (Joseph Hennessey) rounded out the top three.

The win was Meridian Magic's third in six outings and lifted her bankroll to over $20,000 for owners Barry Martin and James Gillis of Sydney, N.S.

Woodmere Rose (2:04.4, Gary Chappell), Shesa Mint (2:05.1, Mike Stevenson), Waterside Kicker (2:04.1, Hilliard Graves) and Woodmere Sandollar (2:04, Todd Trites) prevailed in the $5,000 Grassroots divisions.

A trio of $6,300 divisions for two-year-old trotters were won by West River Unique (2:10.2, Clare MacDonald) trained and owned by Ralph Annear of Montague, Howmacs Amigo (2:10.1, Earl Smith) trained by Earl Watt and owned by Howmac Farms of North Wiltshire and Scarlet Patti (2:07, trainer/driver Darryl MacLean) owned by Gordon MacLean of Winsloe.

In sophomore trotting action, Comere, (2:03.4, Walter Cheverie) trained and owned by Blayne White along with Kuri White of Wood Islands and Oyster Bed Mary (2:05.3, Brian MacPhee) trained and owned by Paul Morrison along with Allison Ferguson of Charlottetown took home the winner's share of the $7,500 purses.

Racing returns to Charlottetown on Thursday at 7 p.m. with the Bob Dewar and the Erwin Andrew Memorial on Friday at the Summerside Raceway. Post time is 7 p.m.
