Meadows Preferred To Phoenix Warrior N
Phoenix Warrior N went from worst to first in the final quarter to capture Monday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
Looking sharp after his third-place finish in the Whata Baron Series championship at The Meadowlands, Phoenix Warrior N followed the live, three-wide cover of Arthur Pendragon into the final turn and outkicked him for Jim Pantaleano by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:50.4, a tick off his life mark. Early leader Dapper Dude saved show.
Scott Betts trains the eight-year-old Jeremes Jet-Never Walk Alone gelding, who boosted his career bankroll to $262,413, for Timothy Betts, Nicholas Catalano and Stephen Moss.
Pantaleano piloted four winners on the 13-race card while Brad Provost notched a pair of victories at eye-popping odds — 60-1 with Battle Cruiser, 42-1 with Grand Priority.
The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has increased — to $20,000 — the total-pool guarantee for its Tuesday, May 8 Pick 4 wager as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.
While $7,500 Pick 4 guarantees are offered each card, The Meadows sweetened the pot when Monday’s Pick 4 was uncovered, resulting in a carryover of $6,839.76.
In addition, Tuesday’s card includes a $5,000 total-pool guarantee for the Pick 5 — also a regular feature of each program at The Meadows
Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 9-13) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.
