Kiwis Claim Breeders Crown Spoils

While New Zealanders dominated Tabcorp Australasian Breeders Crown day at Melton's Tabcorp Park, it was a daughter of Ontario sire Blissfull Hall that made Canadian racing fans take notice

.

In total New Zealanders captured wins in four of the six races that they were represented. Star of the show was Tintin In America, who peeled off a track record 1:56.1 mile rate for the 2240m on his way to an upset win over Bonavista Bay and Captain Joy in a classic 3YO Colts & Geldings Final.

In the 2YO Fillies Final, later in the day, Led Suitcase continued her dream run for Lisa Miles with an upset victory.

The daughter of Blissfull Hall, who won her semi final at odds of 24-to-1, made it three straight wins for the Monegeetta trainer-driver when she overpowered Lady Belladonna.

At 6-to-1 Led Suitcase defeated the $1.60 favourite by a metre in the 2240m final in a 2:00 mile rate, with Art Shadow four metres away in third spot.

Smiling Shard provided star young reinsman Dexter Dunn with his maiden Breeders Crown success in the 2YO Colts & Geldings Final, while Tony Herlihy partnered Tuhimata Glass to victory in the 2YO Trotters Final.

Rounding out the dream day was Tintin In America's Geoff Small stablemate All Tiger, who won the $60,000 Group 2 Breeders Crown Graduate Pacers Free-For-All.

David Butcher, who partnered the two Small-trained winners, was only too happy to play his part in the red-letter day.

"You've got to bring the right horses over if you're going to beat the Australians in these sort of races because it's hard work and we've done that this year," Butcher said.

"They've been nice horses that have come over this year and we've got the results."

Not all the spoils went over the Tasman, however, with a couple of locals producing the day's two most emphatic victories.

Emerging champion Skyvalley unleashed a jaw-dropping performance when he readjusted the 2240m trotting track record with his 32-metre, 1:59.3 mile rate win in the 4YO Trotters Final.

His win completed a Group 1 double for the Breeders Crown's most successful trainer Chris Lang and his reinsman son, Chris Jnr, who also won the 3YO Trotters Final with Let Me Thru.

Make Mine Cullen provided leading trainer-driver combination Glenn and Daryl Douglas with their maiden Breeders Crown titles when she obliterated her three-year-old filly rivals by more than 15 metres.

Maffioso and Kept For Pleasure atoned for previous Breeders Crown heartbreak with wins in their respective four-year-old finals.
