Consolidator Beats The Boys
Consolidator, by Triumphant Caviar, was making her first start in over three months when she drew the outside post for Sunday’s (April 29) $14,500 Open Trot at the Saratoga Casino Hotel.
The Rene Allard trainee had won Yonkers Raceway’s Open back in January, but had raced only once more before taking some time off.
On Sunday, Jordan Derue picked up the catch drive behind the five-year-old mare, who went off at odds of 7-2 in what wound up being a six-horse feature following a scratch.
Consolidator picked up a second-over trip and fanned off cover turning for home in what wound up being a good stretch drive among several of the participants.
Consolidator trotted past the boys in the lane, and the race’s lone lady stopped the timer in 1:57.2. Longshot Tropical Storm Bi (driven by Phil Fluet) finished second, while Swan For You (Jimmy Devaux) earned the show spot in a race that saw the odds-on favourite make an early break.
Consolidator returned $9.40 to win and led an exacta and triple that paid $104 and $535, respectively.
Live racing at ‘the Spa’ will resume this coming Thursday afternoon. First post is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
