Gronkowski Buys Into Gronkowski
On the heels of Ric Flair joining in the ownership of Governor's Cup and Metro Pace winner Lost In Time, another top racehorse is making a splash in the mainstream media. Gronkowski -- of the equine variety -- has a new high-profile owner in the gridiron star of the same name, according to multiple reports.
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski purchased a minority stake of three-year-old Thoroughbred colt Gronkowski, who is pointed to the Kentucky Derby following his March 30 win in the Burradon Stakes over the all-weather track at Newcastle Racecourse in England.
“It will be a new experience,” the 28-year-old footballer told The Wall Street Journal. “Hopefully it will be something I like. I like new hobbies.”
The equine Gronkowski, a $400,000 purchase by Phoenix Thoroughbreds Ltd., has won four of his six career starts to date, including all three of his 2018 outings. The horse was named after the New England football star on account of trainer Jeremy Noseda’s family being ardent Patriots fans.
