Update On Woodbine Expansion
It has been revealed by the Ontario Government that a completed expansion on the grounds of Woodbine Racetrack could annually bring the City of Toronto anywhere from $26 to $31 million by 2022.
According to an article by the CBC, the estimated yearly windfall has been determined by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. A recent report by Toronto’s interim city manager, Giuliana Carbone, has made reference to the estimates.
The CBC piece states that the facility is expected to provide in the vicinity of 3,700 jobs by the time 2022 rolls around. Carbone also cited a stat from Ontario Gaming in her report which states that the gaming operator is planning to ensure that more than half of the employees will be full-time workers once the expansion has been up and running for two years.
Toronto Community Benefits Network Executive Director Rosemarie Powell has said that she would like to see the number of local hires increased to 60 per cent, and would also like to see child care facilities for workers incorporated into the expansion plans.
