Better Caviar Repeats At The Meadows
Better Caviar surged past Mac Deeno in mid-stretch to capture his second straight victory in Monday’s feature at The Meadows, a $13,000 conditioned trot.
Better Caviar was inside behind a wall of horses past the three-quarters. But when Mike Wilder angled him off the cones and showed him racetrack, the 10-year-old son of SJs Caviar-Better Credit found another gear and downed Mac Deeno by a half-length margin in 1:57.2 over a “good” surface. Mike The Trader, who also was pinned in, finished third.
Dave Wade trains Better Caviar, who extended his career bankroll to $225,745, and owns with Gerald Brittingham and William F. Peel III.
Tony Hall collected four wins and Wilder three on the 13-race card.
The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has tripled — to $15,000 — the total-pool guarantee for its Tuesday, April 17 Pick 5 wager as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.
While $5,000 Pick 5 guarantees are offered each card, The Meadows upped the ante when Monday’s Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a carryover of $4,785.97.
In addition, Tuesday’s card includes a $7,500 total-pool guarantee for the Pick 4, also a regular feature of each program at The Meadows.
Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 9-13) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.
First post Tuesday is 1:05 p.m.
