Hat Tricks For 'Whiskey', 'Lindy'
Three-race winning streaks were the theme of the night for a pair of talented sophomore during Thursday’s opening night at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Talbotcreekwhiskey, who didn’t race as a rookie, is now 3-for-3 to start his career thanks to a 1:55 triumph for driver Bob McClure and trainer Luc Blais. The high-priced ($130,000 U.S.) son of Somebeachsomewhere-Luck Of Michelle kicked off his career with back-to-back wins at Flamboro Downs last month (1:59 and 2:00.1), but he took his speed to a whole new level in Thursday’s $14,000 assignment at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
McClure got away seventh with the youngster, who was still seventh while racing parked out at the mid-way point in :56.4. Fifth and still sitting parked at the three-quarter pole, Talbotcreekwhiskey kicked it into gear in the late stages of the mile, and his :28 closing quarter propelled him to the win by two lengths over Southwind Moroccan. Ferrarifever took home third prize.
Sent off as the 3-2 favourite, Talbotcreekwhiskey pushed his earnings to $13,500 with the win for Determination of Montreal, QC.
