Big Rich Rallies; Moreau & Roy Dominate
Big Rich has participated in his fair share of Preferred events on the Woodbine Entertainment circuit, but going into Monday evening’s edition at Woodbine Racetrack he’d never won one.
A two-hole trip helped the Richard Moreau trainee break through for his first score against the circuit’s elite, and he did so at a square price.
Big Rich shot to the early lead from Post 6 and had the field chasing him past the quarter pole in :27.2. As the field entered the backstretch, Will Take Charge popped out of the three-hole and marched to the top. He carved out middle panels of :56.2 and 1:24.4, but Big Rich angled off the rail and kicked home in :27.4 to win by a head over Will Take Charge in 1:53.1. Windsun Revenge was third.
Sent off at odds of 5-1, the six-year-old son of Donato Hanover-Kidman Hall found his way to victory lane for the second time this season and for the 20th time in his career. The $17,000 payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $419,728. The gelding is owned by 9099 3833 Quebec Inc and Frank Spagnolo.
Roy and Moreau tacked on three more wins en route to posting Grand Slams on the 10-race card. Their other winners were Regil Tiger (Race 2 – 1:53), A Boy Named Suuzz (Race 7 – 1:51.3) and Shippen Out (Race 9 - 1:52.1).
