First Saratoga Open Win For CrazyCat
CrazyCat, by Crazed, is enjoying a breakout season in the early going of the 2018 campaign at Saratoga Casino Hotel, and that breakout continued on Sunday afternoon (March 25).
The Jose Godinez-trained five-year-old recorded his first-ever Open Trot victory during the matinee card, as he came from off the pace to score in a career-best 1:55.1 with co-owner Bruce Aldrich Jr. in the sulky.
CrazyCat had finished second in his debut in the local feature two weeks back, and, even after having made a break last week, was the public’s 9-5 second choice for the $12,000 Open.
Cash Me Out (who was driven by Mark Beckwith) finished second on Sunday after a pair of third-place finishes in his previous two cracks at the Open. Longshot Quick Feet (Phil Fluet) earned the show spot.
In addition to the clocking being a new lifetime mark for CrazyCat, the 1:55.1 mile also served as a new seasonal-best for trotters at ‘the Spa’ so far this year.
The race’s exactor and triactor, with the favourite out of it, paid $20.80 and $181.50, respectively.
Live racing at Saratoga will resume on Thursday with a matinee that will begin at 12:15 p.m.
