The photo-finish camera was called on to help decide the winner in Saturday’s $6,000 Open Pace at Sulky Quebec, and after close examination the Judges declared Leader Bayama’s nose was the first one to touch the finish line
.
The eight-year-old son of Artsplace-Topaz Blue Chip played a game of “come and get me” for trainer/driver Gabriel Boily, who sliced out splits of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26.2 with the classy performer. A :29.4 final frame was just enough for Leader Bayama to fend off En Katimini in a time of 1:56.1. Canaco Notable was third best in the six-horse affair.
Edgar Godin of Shipshaw, QC pays the bills and cashes the cheques on the 31-time winner, who now boasts earnings in excess of $240,000.
