Fillies Flock To CDP For ATSS

Three-year-old pacing fillies of the Atlantic Sires Stakes program were out in full force during a 12-race matinee at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday

There were seven divisions in total - three “A” splits worth $8,580 apiece and a quartet of “B” divisions for $2,500 apiece.

Elleofnxample turned in the quickest clocking of the afternoon in the opening “A” division for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald. The daughter of N Xample-Farline Hanover rallied for a nose decision over Woodmere Humdinger in a career-best clocking of 1:57.1. Sweetie Girl rounded out the top three.

It was the first win of the season in 10 tries for the four-time winner, who has banked close to $28,000 to date for MacDonald and partners Jane Haley, Morah Kerr and Phonsie McEachern.

Darko, a daughter of Largo-Norwell Lilyharbor, front-stepped her way to a 1:59.1 score in the second division for driver Kenny Arsenault. The filly led through panels of :30.1, 1:01 and 1:30.1 before scooting home in a :29-second clip. She cruised to a three-length win over Larshegoes. Elm Grove Dallas grabbed the show dough.

Owned and trained by Ralph Annear of Montague, PE, the filly improved her record to four wins in eight starts this season while bumping her lifetime earnings in excess of $76,000.

R Es Mary went the distance in her $8,580 “A” division for trainer/driver Earl Smith, who laid down panels of :28.4, :57.4 and 1:27.4 with the homebred daughter of N Xample-Kona Queen before cruising home in a :30-second clip to stop the teletimer in a career-best clocking of 1:57.4. It was more than two lengths back to runner-up P H Princess. Oceanview Kitty took home third prize.

Peter Smith, Donald Smith, Gerald Morrissey and Larry Chappell share ownership on the career winner of $57,582, who is now 2-for-10 this season.

The winners in the "B" divisions were N Xample Deal (2:00), Artistic Putnam (2:01.2), Papas Little Rose (2:00.2) and Putnams Hope (2:00.2).
