The third leg of the Slots Cup Series saw Classic Ambition and Kerrs Light prevailed in their respective $12,000 divisions on Friday night at Grand River Raceway

.

Billiam (Nick Steward) carved out all the fractions in the first division, but it was Classic Ambition who pulled off a 7-1 surprise after flying home in :28.1 from the backfield for the victory in 1:56. Clarkbro Express (Mike Whelan) finished over a length back in second after rallying three-wide at three-quarters around favourite Shiny Mach (Brad Forward), who finished third.

Driven by Doug McNair for trainer Kristofer DiCenzo, Classic Ambition, a first round Slots Cup winner, won for the second time this year in eight starts. The four-year-old gelded son of Rustler Hanover-I Sizzle scored his fourth win of his career and pushed his earnings to over $41,000 for owners Eugenio Chiaravalle of Binbroo and Giuseppe Mercaldi of Hamilton, Ont.

In division two, favourite Kerrs Light used front-end tactics to prevail in 1:55 for driver Scott Zeron and trainer Rene Allard. The four-year-old son of Astreos-Calistoga Bay left from Post 3 and was never seriously threatened as he rolled through splits of :28, :58.3 and 1:27.2 en route to victory. Monster In Law (Alfred Carroll) finished a length back in second off a pocket trip and Winter Blues (Stuart Sowerby) survived a first-over journey to finish third in his first pari-mutuel start since the accident at Woodbine Racetrack on March 2 in the Ontario Boys Pacing Series final.

Kerrs Light, a second round Slots Cup winner, notched his fifth victory of the season in 17 tries and 10th of his career lifting his earnings to over $109,000 for owner Mark Kerr of Komoka, Ont.

The fourth leg of the Slots Cup Series is scheduled for August 30 at Clinton Raceway and the $75,000 (added) final will take place on Saturday, September 12 at Hiawatha Horse Park.
