Faves Prevail In Emerald Filly Splits
A pair of $25,000 divisions of the Emerald Filly Stakes highlighted the Wednesday evening program at Evergreen Park on Wednesday evening, and the favourites
came through in both splits.
Brandy Is Dandy had no problem delivering on her pari-mutuel promise for trainer/driver Gerry Hudon, who shares ownership on the daughter of Brandons Cowboy-Napa Hanover with Monica Hudon of Edmonton, AB and Bill Boden of Vancouver, BC.
Hudon put the youngster on the engine right from the outset, and after laying down panels of :29.3, 1:00.1 and 1:30.4 she stepped home in :30.3 to stop the clock in 2:01.2. Crush On Clinton was three-quarters-of-a-length back in second, with Rio Gold rounded out the top three. It was the first lifetime victory for Brandy Is Dandy, who has banked $14,043 in her first three assignments.
Double L Hot Trap extended her win streak to three-in-a-row for trainer/driver Keith Clark thanks to a gate-to-wire score clocked in 2:01.2. The daughter of Ludwigpanbeethoven-One Hot Lady threw out panels of :29.4, 1:00.4 and 1:32.4 before turning on the jets with a :28.3 final frame. Cigarchompin was second best and third prize went to Wrangler Raine.
Oranzo and Lillian Panaro of Edmonton, AB bred and own the career winner of $18,365. The victory helped the filly improve her 2009 record to 3-1-0 in four starts.
