Grand Slam For Upvote Hanover
Undefeated this year, Upvote Hanover notched his fourth consecutive victory taking the $8,100 Preferred Handicap for trotters at Rideau Carleton Raceway while Windsun Cheyenne doubled up in Sunday night's co-featured pace.
Upvote Hanover crossed to command from the outside post at the :27.4 quarter mark and proceeded to lead the field of six through middle fractions of :57.2 and 1:27.2 en route to victory in 1:56.3. He paid $3.90 to win. Raising Richard chased the favourite one length behind and Pasadena Star checked in third.
Louis-Philippe Roy has driven the four-year-old Kadabra-Upfront Annika gelding in all four of his winning ventures this year. Claimed on February 5 at Woodbine for $18,750, Upvote Hanover has won his last two at Rideau for trainer Yves Tessier and owner Francois Morin. Lifetime, he has won one-third of his 30 races while banking over $58,000 in purses.
Windsun Cheyenne won his second straight $8,550 Preferred as he swung off cover after a :55.2 half with Stephane Brosseau aboard for trainer/owner Gina Bragagnolo. The eight-year-old Cams Card Shark-Windsun Dee gelding prevailed in 1:54.3 by one and a quarter lengths over the oncoming Hoboken Hanover and Atomic Million AM.
Sent off at double-digit odds of 11-1 despite his winning performance in the same class one week ago, Windsun Cheyenne returned $24.50.
Including their victories in the evening's feature events, Roy and Brosseau each ended up with three wins on the 12-race program.
