Homer Jay – The Only Colt To Defeat Muscle Hill
Only a few days after Muscle Hill won the $1.5 million Hambletonian in a record 1:50.1 and extended his winning streak to 13, the only colt to ever finish ahead of him will compete in a New Jersey Sire Stakes event at Freehold Raceway.
Homer Jay, a son of Muscles Yankee in the care of trainer Ray Schnittker, handed Muscle Hill his only career defeat on July 3, 2008 in a New Jersey Sire Stakes preliminary leg at the Meadowlands. Homer Jay won by a neck in that meeting.
It was Muscle Hill’s first career start at two and the third pari-mutuel outing for Homer Jay. One week later, they would face off again in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final. Muscle Hill prevailed by a length over Homer Jay in 1:57.3.
The two Muscles Yankee colts have met one additional time in this year’s $200,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final on June 4 at the Meadowlands. Muscle Hill was the winner in 1:56.3. Homer Jay was ninth.
Homer Jay traveled to Saratoga on August 5 and won a conditioned trot by six and one quarter lengths.
On the afternoon of Friday, August 14, Homer Jay will make his 13th career start in the second race at Freehold, a $34,100 division of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings. Muscle Hill is not entered.
Homer Jay has two wins and two seconds in 12 career starts for the ownership of Ray Schnittker of Middletown, New York; Arden Homestead Stable of Delhi, New York; Steven Arnold of Purchase, New York and David Pepin of Trumansburg, New York.
