Leonard, Johnson Take Hawthorne Titles

A winter meet that brought weather conditions from fog, to rain, to heavy snow concluded Monday evening at Hawthorne. Due to a couple of cancellations in the final weeks because of snowy conditions, the winter meet consisted of 25 cards.

When all was said and done, driver Casey Leonard grabbed his fourth consecutive leading driver title, with 38 wins while Loralee Johnson took home the training title with 19 wins.

The winter meet opened with some excitement on opened weekend as a triple dead heat for win took place on January 7 when Picky Picky Valor, Keep the Cash, and Skyway Jaylo all hit the wire at the same time.

Closing weekend brought about the 3,000th career victory for driver Ryan Anderson, when he won with Olivia V on February 16. The next evening had the last two series finals of the meet as Fox Valley Catwalk won the Doc Walker series while Sagebrush Shocker won the Terry Hunt series.

Thoroughbred racing resumes at the end of March and continues through April. Summer harness action takes place May through September. Fall thoroughbreds close out the year October through December.
