Racing Board Launches Video Series
A compelling video of the racehorse Bal a Bali shortly before, during and after a race with an insightful narrative by Racing Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella can now be viewed through a link on the California Horse Racing Board website. This video is one of four recently added to the CHRB library to show the great care given to racehorses as well as the vigilance of those responsible for ensuring the integrity of horse racing.
“Day in the Life: Racehorse (Race Day)” is part of the “Rules of the Game” series commissioned by the CHRB and produced by Scott Eberly. The other three new additions focus on the same racehorse on a typical morning, the role of the stewards monitoring the race and the photo-finish process.
Eberly previously completed the first five videos in the ongoing series that focus on:
-
Drug Testing
-
Track Safety
-
Riding Crops
-
Official Veterinarian and
-
Importance of Weight

The CHRB website also provides links to three videos on the University of California at Davis website that are part of a continuing education series U.C. Davis is developing in partnership with the CHRB. Two of those three education modules address humeral fractures and scapular fractures, while the third provides an overview of the Racing Safety Program. Additional education modules are in the planning and development stages, and each will be added to the website upon completion.
Additionally, the California Horsemen’s Safety Alliance developed seven videos to promote safety awareness and injury prevention among stable employees and jockeys. Those seven videos – in both English and Spanish – can be accessed through the CHRB website.
