Rideau Puts On Sunday Best For Rich Juvenile Finals

Rideau Carleton Raceway will be the site of a trio of local harness racing championships on Sunday, featuring some of the best two-year-old pacers and trotters in the region

.

The finals of the Majestic Son, Boys of Summer and Feisty Fillies series will be contested for purses of over $28,000 in each division.

The Majestic Son Series, named in honor of the locally trained O’Brien Award-winning Horse of the Year, features the unbeaten Stormont Garcon putting his perfect career record on the line for the lion’s share of the $28,900 purse. Trained by John MacMillan and driven by Ted McDonald, Stormont Garcon is the prohibitive favorite. The son of Stormont Bronze is an immaculate six-for-six and the one to deny.

The Boys of Summer Final will be contested for a purse of $28,400 has an intriguing story line. The Jason Gilchrist-trained and driven Tank Murdock (The Panderosa-R Reva-Pacific Fella) has been a bridesmaid in each of the three previous legs. Can he finally get off the schneid? The fact that no single colt or gelding has dominated this series makes things even more intriguing.

The Feisty Fillies Pacing Finale carries a purse of $29,050 and pits C Lulujustlikethat against St Lads Trixie. C Lulujustlikethat (Modern Art - Queen From Omaha - Kingsbridge) has won 3 of the four previous divisions and will be driven by Patrick Richer for conditioner Lucille Gauthier. Meantime St Lads Trixie (Modern Art - Tricky Fame - Apaches Fame) has won her last two divisions, and comes from the stable of Canada’s hottest trainer in Sebastien Giroux. Giroux is hitting an unbelievable .529, leading all Canadian trainers. She’ll be driven by John MacDonald who is in fourth place nationwide in UDRS with an average of .371
