Upsets In Miami Valley Series Finals
A pair of $22,500 Claim To Fame Series finals resulted in mild upsets on Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 30) at Miami Valley Raceway.
In the $8,000 claiming horses and geldings division, Anarchy Hanover (John DeLong) tipped three-wide around the final bend to best CCs Desire (Trevor Smith) and Star Guitar (Jeremy Smith) in 1:55.3 over a track rated good. Star Guitar cut all the fractions with CCs Desire snug in the pocket throughout the mile. Anarchy Hanover, before unleashing the winning attack, was content to idle in sixth position.
Adam Short owns and trains the winner, a five-year-old by Badlands Hanover. Although he had seven wins in 2017, Anarchy Hanover was winless in three previous 2018 tries, barely qualifying for the final with a second- and a fourth- place finish. Anarchy Hanover paid $21.60 to win.
The $12,500 claiming mares contested their championship as well, with Likeafireballshot (Jeremy Smith) eking out a narrow victory over Marissa (Chris Page). Well Wishers (Josh Sutton) came from far back to grab third place. Likeafireballshot launched a successful first-over attack just before the half that ended up a head better than Marissa, who was well placed near the frontrunners from the rail, but came up just short once she found racing room.
Thomas Phillips owns the winning five-year-old Sportsmaster mare, who is conditioned by Tricia Shepard. Likeafireballshot paid $16.80.
