EHV Forces Meadows Cancellations
The races for Monday (Jan. 29), Tuesday (Jan. 30), and Wednesday (Jan. 31) at The Meadows have been cancelled due to a quarantine related to the equine herpes virus (EHV).
The Bureau of Animal Health took precautionary measures to avoid further EHV contamination, placing Barns 5, 19 and 23 under quarantine Saturday along with the previous Barns 6 and 21.
Horses in Barnes 5, 19 and 23 showed elevated temperatures, but were not symptomatic of EHV. Blood tests on these horses will be drawn and delivered to the testing lab in Harrisburg Sunday for early Monday-morning testing and results should be back on Monday afternoon.
The Racing Commission, Bureau of Animal Health, Meadows management and the MSOA will continue to monitor the situation and keep the industry informed.
