'Bourbon' Rocks London Preferred
Despite being shaken up at the start with Maxim Seelster losing stride, 9-5 favourite Bourbon Seelster won the $10,500 Filly and Mares Preferred 2 Pace in near wire-to-wire style on the Tuesday, Jan. 23 program at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Bourbon Seelster secured the lead through a :28.2 opening quarter, with first-over pressure supplied by One Over Par circling the far turn first time. One Over Par nosed the favourite heading past the half, timed in :58.2, carrying into contention Tilikum, from second over, War Filly, third over, and Thewayulooktonight, fourth over. Bourbon Seelster reemerged on the lead in the backstretch as One Over Par retreated, forcing War Filly and Thewayulooktonight to circle by going to three-quarters, paced in 1:29. Clear around the final turn, Bourbon Seelster finished two-and-one-quarter lengths in front of War Filly, with Thewayulooktonight close in third.
A five-year-old mare by Camluck out of the Bettors Delight mare Tarport Baccarat, Bourbon Seelster, owned by W. Scott Manders and Keith Manders, won her 13th race in 37 starts, earning $160,000. Trained by Robert Manders and driven by Ryan Holliday, she paid $5.80 to win.
