Thats It and Cardinal Rule were victorious in a pair of $7,500 eliminations for the Lady Cloverdale featuring four-year-old pacing mares on Sunday afternoon (January 21) at Fraser Downs.

With Paul Davies in the sulky, Thats It swept up from the three-hole in the first elimination and took the lead from Alexas Princess after a half in one minute flat. The 3-5 favourite then took off en route to three-quarters in 1:28.4 and crossed the wire three and a quarter lengths in front in 1:58.4 over the 'good' track. Alexas Princess followed in second, with Cays Blessing finishing third. Badlands Palace and Tahuya Gameday completed the field.

Trained by Gord Abbott for Alberta owners Lorne Duffield, Jean Crochetiere and Rod Hennessy, Thats It has won two of her last three races at Fraser Downs. Overall, the Dragon Again mare has won 10 of her 37 career starts -- including seven victories last year -- while banking $94,531 in purses.

Second-to-last and nine lengths off the lead in the early going, 8-5 second choice Cardinal Rule began to pick off rivals down the backstretch and chased the front-striding favourite Keys Please (:29, :58.3, 1:27.2) home in the second elimination, eventually catching her at the wire in 1:58.3. Starry Eyes finished third, with Truce Seelster and Tahuya Countess rounding out the order of finish.

John Chappell drove the season-debuting Cardinal Rule, who is trained by Blaine Chappell. The roan Allamerican Navajo mare notched her ninth career win and now has $89,799 in purse earnings from 29 starts for owner Ross Sharp of Campbell River, B.C.

The $30,000 final of the Lady Cloverdale will be held on Sunday, Feb. 4 at Fraser Downs.
