Chappell Trainees Triumphant At Fraser
Trainer John Chappell won early and often during Fraser Downs' Sunday afternoon (January 14) harness racing program.
The Surrey, B.C. horseman kicked off the 11-race card with a 2:00.1 victory aboard his trainee Western Vixen ($11.10), a four-year-old Camystic mare owned and bred by Evert Vandenborn but claimed for $9,000 after her fifth career win by Rod Therres.
Chappell then teamed up with driver Paul Davies for a third-race victory as Incredible Cam ($9.50) broke his maiden in 1:59.2 over the 'good' track. The homebred four-year-old Camluck gelding is owned by Tom Wood.
After scoring back-to-back wins in December, Shes A Vixen ($10.50) resumed her winning ways to complete a Sunday training triple for Chappell. Another four-year-old daughter of Camystic owned and bred by Vandenborn, Shes A Vixen romped to a career-best 1:58.4 victory in the sixth race, besting her competition by nine and a half lengths.
Last year, Chappell campaigned the second-leading stable at Fraser Downs, behind Jim Marino, with his starters winning 37 races. Lifetime, he has earned 633 training wins and more than $3.45 million in purses.
