Northlands Park hosted the $18,000 Snowflake Series Final, for fillies, and the $18,000 Snowshoe Series Final, for colts and geldings, on a 13-race matinee program Saturday, January 6.

True Horizon brushed to the lead moving into the final turn and coasted to a 2:01.2 victory in the Snowflake Final.

Positioned third, True Horizon sat off a tempo established by Ruths Crown Royal, going a quarter in :29.2 and a half in :59.2 before encountering the favourite in the backstretch moving to three-quarters. True Horizon drew within a head of the lead at three-quarters in 1:29.3, overtaking Ruths Crown Royal as she retreated approaching the top of the stretch. Holding a five-length lead on Winking At You, who circumvented the faltering pacesetter to take second, True Horizon's advantage narrowed approaching the line, with Winking At You finishing three-quarters lengths behind the winner, with Risque Miss taking third.

A three-year-old filly by Vertical Horizon from the Mach Three mare The Three of Us, True Horizon, owned by Monica Hudon and Donald McDougall, won her fourth race in 12 starts, compiling $25,312 in earnings. Trained and driven by Gerry Hudon, she paid $4.30 to win.

Sent the odds-on choice, Yankee Up won the Snowshoe Final going wire to wire in 1:59.

Unchallenged through a :29.1 opening quarter, Yankee Up faced no threats pacing a 1:00.3 half and to three-quarters in 1:30. Pocket-sitter Shaker Tank pursued the leader in the stretch, popping pocket and lunging towards the pacesetter late, but finishing a quarter-length away in second. Blue Star Trooper, coming into contention by surpassing a stalled outer flow, finished third.

Owned by trainer-driver Jamie Gray with co-owner James Rhodes, Yankee Up, a three-year-old gelding by Vertical Horizon out of the Artiscape mare Nice Yankee, won his fourth race in eight starts, earning $21,636. He paid $3.50 to win.
