West GTA Bundle Decision Imminent?
It has been reported that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. could make an announcement in regard to its West GTA Gaming Bundle as early as this week.
According to an article by The Globe and Mail, the Great Canadian Gaming Corp. is reportedly on the short-list of companies to operate the West GTA Gaming Bundle, which includes gaming locations at Mohawk Racetrack, Grand River Raceway, Flamboro Downs and a casino in Brantford.
"We submitted a bid in July 2017 and are awaiting the outcome of the OLG's process," Terrence Doyle, chief operating officer for Great Canadian, confirmed to The Globe and Mail in an email.
"I can confirm we are in the final stages of selecting the service provider for the West GTA gaming bundle," said OLG's Tony Bitonti, who declined further comment on timelines or specific entities.
The Globe and Mail piece also states that the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is currently conducting a probe into allegations of money laundering that may have occurred at GCGC's River Rock Casino in BC in 2015.
Two months ago (in October), the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. issued a press release which stated that it was satisfied that Great Canadian will fulfill the opportunities in the GTA Gaming Bundle in a responsible way.
The statement from the OLG – which can be read in its entirety by clicking here – was issued as the money laundering allegations were being reported in the mainstream media.
On August 8, the OLG announced that Ontario Gaming GTA LP (OGGLP), which includes the Great Canadian Gaming Corp. and Brookfield Business Partners LP, had been selected as the service provider for the GTA Gaming Bundle following a competitive procurement process. The GTA Gaming Bundle includes Woodbine Racetrack, Ajax Downs and the Great Blue Heron Casino.
