Woodbine Feature To Will Take Charge
Owner Mac Nichol has to like what he’s seen so far since the late season acquisition of Ontario Sires Stakes graduate Will Take Charge.
The four-year-old son of Kadabra-Celebrity Angel powered to a 1:52.3 follow-up score for new trainer Jeff Gillis on the heels of a 1:52.2 triumph in last week’s debut since the stable switch.
Will Take Charge found himself sitting the pocket trip to the quarter pole for driver Jody Jamieson, who then got backed up to third at the mid-way point. Jamieson had Will Take Charge on the move from first-over at the three-quarter pole and they eventually worked their way to the lead. A :28.2 closing quarter earned Will Take Charge the win by a length over Catch The Dream. Big Rich was third.
The public’s top choice in the wagering improved this year’s record to 5-2-2 from 20 starts following the victory, and he pushed his lifetime earnings to $541,550 after taking home the lion’s share of the $25,000 purse.
