Cheverie Sweeps P.E.I. Preferreds
If it is Preferred pacing action you are watching, you want to have a win ticket on driver Walter Cheverie as he captured both top events on the weekend at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
After winning the Saturday afternoon top class with Heart And Soul from his own stable, Cheverie came back Sunday afternoon to win the $2,550 Preferred Pace with another member from his Nine Mile Creek outfit. Nogreatmischief won the top event at 5-1 odds in 1:56.4 rallying from off the pace. Cheverie owns the son of Bettors Delight with the Estate of John Thompson of Charlottetown. Adkins Hanover finished second for driver Corey MacPherson, while race favourite Rose Run Quest (Marc Campbell) completed the $155.30 triactor.
Gilles Barrieau made three trips to the historic Red Shores Charlottetown winner’s circle after winning with Perfect Escape in 1:58.1 for trainer Jackie Matheson of Stratford, P.E.I., Best Risque in 1:59.4 for Brian Ladner of Charlottetown, and Dilans Mustang in 2:00.4 for trainer Robert Phillips of Pinette, P.E.I.
Ken Murphy, Kenny Arsenault and Dale Spence scored driving doubles on the 12-dash card.
Live racing goes down to once a week on Prince Edward Island for the rest of the season, with the action resuming Saturday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. post time.
