Regal Luck Delivers At Western Fair
Regal Luck delivered on her pari-mutuel promise winning the featured $9,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace contested over 1-1/16 miles on Friday night (November 17) at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Driven by Paul MacKenzie, Regal Luck got away third from a trailing tier start and followed inside leavers Ginger and Alphabet Queen through a :28.4 first quarter. She made her move on the way to the half in :57.4 and took a short lead on the outside past three-quarters in 1:27.3. Moving out front down the stretch, she went the added distance in 2:04.3, winning by one length over the rallying Leaving A Legacy. Ginger held off Solid Queen for third.
Owned, bred and trained by John Smith Jr. of Burford, Ont., the seven-year-old Stonebridge Regal-Lapidarys Luck mare notched her 28th career victory and pushed her earnings to $262,580.
This season, she has hit the board in 20 of her 39 starts while banking over $70,000 in purses. The win was her fifth of the campaign.
Regal Luck was the 5-2 favourite and paid $6.40 to win.
