Gural: Vernon Slots Could Be Reduced
Racetrack owner/operator Jeff Gural has said that he is looking to reduce the amount of slot machines at Vernon Downs.
According to an article by Upstate New York, Gural is hoping to make the racino “more inviting” by freeing up space and boosting the track’s catering business.
The piece has also cited Gural as saying that the track survived its 2017 harness meet because the state was convinced to reduce the level of taxes the racino had to pay on revenues derived from gaming.
Gural conveyed that the state’s decision to reduced the taxes helped preserve the millions ($10M - $12M) that Vernon ultimately produces for education, etc. in New York State.
Gural also said that NY’s decision helped save 300 jobs at the track.
