Buddy Weiser Prevails In Fraser Open
After missing by just a neck and nose in his last two starts, Buddy Weiser delivered as the odds-on favourite defeating his Open opponents in Sunday's $12,000 feature at Fraser Downs.
With John Abbott catch-driving for trainer Rod Therres, Buddy Weiser rallied off the cover of Sabine Pass and then held off last week's winner Illwinifican, who closed from last, to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.3. Read The Proposal edged out Sabine Pass for third while Premium Stock earned the final paycheque finishing fifth.
Buddy Weiser notched his fifth win of the year from 13 starts and 17th victory lifetime while pushing his earnings to $143,508. The five-year-old Western Ideal-Buddys Gal gelding is owned by Veikko Pajunen of Vancouver, B.C.
He paid $5.60 to win as the 9-5 favourite.
Its Eds Idea had led the field through fractions of :28, :58.3 and 1:26.2 before being overtaken and faded to seventh, beaten five and a three-quarter lengths. The winner's 18-1 stablemate Gable Blue Chip tracked the pacesetter and finished sixth.
