Huge Effort From Burn Em Up Burr
If letter marks were given for performance, Burn Em Up Burr would most certainly get an A+ for effort after his win in Saturday's feature $1,200 Winners Over Pace at Northside Downs.
With Gerard Kennedy at the controls, Burn Em Up Burr was pointed for the lead after a brief pocket tuck behind Fleetwood Cam (Mark Pezzarello). Those two traded blows through the :28.2 opening quarter and the :58.2 half. Once Burn Up Em Burr disposed of the early pacesetter and cleared to the lead down the backside, he faced the immediate threat of Prada Spur (Joseph Poirier). That rival was second over and fresh through a 1:28.4 third panel and not going away around the final turn. Burn Em Up Burr dug deep and rallied to repel Prada Spur and trip the timer in 1:59.4. Favoured Nameisonthehalter (Lawrence Snow) could only muster show honours.
A recent addition to the stable of trainer-owner Heather Hawkins, Burn Em Up Burr (Whosurboy - Armbro Bailey) now boasts nine wins on the season and 14 lifetime. Since arriving in Nova Scotia in mid-September, the six-year-old gelding sports a summary of 3-2-1 in six starts.
