Rideau Applies For More Table Games
Hard Rock has applied to expand its table-gaming offerings at Rideau Carleton Raceway from 21 to 35.
According to an article by the CBC, Rideau submitted the expansion application with the committee of adjustment, which the CBC has characterized as a quasi-judicial body that deals with minor changes to zoning rules.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. has also commented on the situation. The OLG conveyed to the CBC that, "before Hard Rock Casino Ottawa can add table games to the site (Rideau Carleton Raceway), it must present a business case to OLG and receive required municipal and provincial approvals."
It is expected that the committee of adjustment will address the application in some way on November 15.
The CBC has cited city clerk and solicitor Rick O'Connor as saying that the adjustment committee members will be the ones that will determine whether the request for additional tables is minor.
O'Connor also stated that the committee members will also determine whether the request for expansion falls within the nature of the zoning by-law, which currently caps the number of table games at Rideau at 21.
