Unabating Circles Rideau's Top Trotters
A wire-to-wire winner from the outside post last week, Unabating ($2.50) changed up his tactics to repeat in the $8,400 Winners Over Handicap Trot co-featured at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night (October 29).
Last through the first half-mile, Unabating circled his six rivals to take the lead at the third quarter mark and drew away down the stretch for trainer/driver Guy Gagnon. Catheline Pelletier's nine-year-old Broadway Hall gelding matched his winning time from a week ago, but this time trotting the 1:57.3 mile in sloppy conditions and winning by four and a quarter lengths. The victory was his 10th of the year from 21 starts and 43rd lifetime. Raising Richard and Cheque The Magic completed the top three finish order.
State News ($23.30) also scored from off-the-pace in the $8,550 co-featured pace, rallying three-wide to take the lead at the top of the stretch and holding on in a three-across finish over fellow closers Stonebridge Beach and National Debt. The five-year-old Mach Three gelding, who was driven by Matt Harvey, prevailed by a neck in 1:55.2 for trainer Raymond Krick and owner Robyn Lawlor.
