Rookies Impress At Truro
Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old pacing colts put on an impressive show at Truro Raceway on Thursday night, as part of Atlantic Grand Circuit Week
harness racing action.
Mr Salming had the fastest time of the night, winning the first of three $8,100 “A” division events in a time of 1:58.1. Gilles Barrieau had the driving win for owners Boyd MacDonald Produce of Crapaud, PEI and Daniel Ross of Belfast, PEI. Crossing the finishing line in a close second was Allbentouttashape and the third place finisher was Freddy My Boy.
Putnams Force won the second “A” division pace of the night for driver Ryan Ellis and owner Ross Toole of Truro, NS in a time of 2:00.3. Second place honours went to Comebacks Sir Tax and third place went to T M Top Gun.
The final “A” event of the night went to Island Redemption in a time of 1:59.1 with Gilles Barrieau in the bike again. The two-year-old colt is owned by Alfred Barrieau of Dieppe, NB and Kelly Barrieau and Michael Clinton of Saint John, NB. Ringmaster took the second place spot and third place went to Goin Large.
Two “B” divisions of the two-year-old pacing colts were also on the race card. Tellyounolie and driver Gilles Barrieau won the first $2,500 event for owner Cynthia Coady of Charlottetown, PEI. The second “B” event of the night went to Remember Im Laffin and driver Redmond Doucet, Jr. for owner Bobby MacLeod of South West Margaree, NS.
Atlantic Sires Stakes action returns to Truro Raceway on Saturday when the three-year-old pacing colts gather for competition. There will be four “A” divisions of the pacing colts going for a purse of $6,140 each and two “B” divisions going for $2,500.
Harness racing excitement will continue on Monday, August 3, as both the two and three-year-old trotters will compete in Atlantic Sires Stakes events at Woodstock Raceway in New Brunswick. The two-year-old trotters will go in two divisions for a substantial purse pool $11,960 each and the three-year-olds will also go in two divisions for $12,020 each.
