Rock Fame Takes Batavia Open
Rock Fame, off a lifetime-best mile the week prior, capitalized on a perfect trip to win the $10,500 Open Handicap Pace at Batavia Downs on Saturday, October 21.
In Runaway Bay grabbed the front from Rock Fame, going a quarter in :26.4 before being challenged by Fireyourguns, failing to clear and parking through three-quarters. Show Stopping, Teo Enteo A and Focus Power circumvented Fireyourguns, fanning across the track in pursuit of In Runaway Bay. However, Rock Fame, riding the pocket, shot into the passing lane, sprinting to a length victory in 1:53.2.
It was the fifth win in the last seven starts and the eighth win of the year for Rock Fame, paying $10.20, who now boasts $40,773 on his card for 2017. Rock Fame is owned by William Emmons, trained by James Clouser Jr., and driven by Ron Beback Jr.
In the co-featured $9,000 Open II pace, Miss Irish Rose A took on a field of male opponents and went coast to coast to capture a narrow victory over Chickenwithabanjo in 1:53.4, a lifetime best. Miss Irish Rose A, paying $2.40, now has three wins in four North American starts for owner-trainer-driver Larry Stalbaum.
Racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
