In Runaway Bay Bests Batavia Bunch
In Runaway Bay bested the Batavia bunch in the $10,000 Open Handicap Pace at Batavia Downs on Saturday, October 14.
In Runaway Bay fired off the gate and crossed over to an uncontested lead up through a :57.3 half. Santana Beach advanced uncovered to briefly challenge In Runaway Bay, soon faltering going to three-quarters. Fireyourguns circled into contention, but chased as In Runaway Bay cruised to a three-length victory in 1:53.1.
It was the fifth win of the year for In Runaway Bay, returning $26.60 to win, all five of which were scored at Batavia Downs. Owner Super Mile LLC has received $30,010 in purses from the seven-year-old Mach Three horse this season. He's trained by Angelo Nappo and was driven by Kevin Cummings.
In the $9,000 Open II co-feature, Show Stopping sat a two-hole trip behind the heavily-favoured Miss Irish Rose A before popping the pocket off the last turn and out-pacing the leader to the wire to win in 1:52.1, which was a new lifetime mark. Show Stopping, paying $7.20, is owned by Resilient Racing Stable, trained by Rose Russo, and was driven by Kevin Cummings.
Racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Wednesday, October 18 with post time at 5 p.m.
