Charlottetown Hosts ABC Consolations

The Saturday, October 7 program at Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park featured four $5,000 consolations of the Atlantic Breeders Crown for each sex of freshman and sophomore pacer.

Going first over, Tobins Terror took the Two-Year-Old Filly Pace as the 7-5 favourite in 1:59.1.

Sitting fourth, Tobins Terror stalked a :29.2 quarter established by Woodmere Saphire, who went unchallenged through a :59.3 half. Trainer-driver Gary Chappell started his filly first over before the half, later drawing alongside the pacesetter at three-quarters in 1:29.4. Woodmere Saphire was left chasing Tobins Terror in the stretch, with Silverhill Misty, riding the pocket, shooting up the passing lane to take second. Woodmere Saphire was third.

By Stonebridge Terror out of the Arts Conquest mare Hot Fusion, Tobins Terror, paying $4.80 to win, won her fourth race in 10 starts, earning $8,660 for owners Boyd Macdonald Prodce Ltd. and Daniel Ross.

Brushing to the front after the quarter, J J Powerball progressed to a nine-length blowout in the Two-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Pace, winning in 1:57.1.

The 1-5 favourite took control from Easy Flyer after a :29.1 first quarter. Soon being challenged first over by Dangle Ona Dime, J J Powerball parked out his competitor through a :58.4 half and began to kick away from him off a 1:28.1 third-quarter before ultimately kicking away from the field. Dangle Ona Dime grabbed second, while Dustylanesam, riding his cover, was another five lengths back in third.

Owned by Walter Simmons and Tammy Collings, J J Powerball, by Image Of Dawn out of the Bettors Delight mare Ny Lotto, won his fourth race in eight starts, earning $11,652. Trained by Austin Sorrie and driven by Marc Campbell, he paid $2.40.

Glenview Paisley rallied off cover to take the Three-Year-Old Filly Pace in 1:58.4 as the 8-5 favourite.

Shesaroyal Cowgirl took the lead after a :28.3 quarter, leaving Eastcoast Trinity to sit the pocket. Glenview Paisley, positioned sixth, picked up cover and was second over as Shesaroyal Cowgirl posted splits of :58 and 1:28.1. With stalled cover, driver Ernest Laffin tipped Glenview Paisley three wide moving into the final turn, rushing towards Eastcoast Trinity, who overtook Shesaroyal Cowgirl in the stretch. Glenview Paisley surged by to a neck victory over Eastcoast Trinity, with Shesaroyal Cowgirl third.

Winning her ninth race in 32 starts, Glenview Paisley, by Immachulate from the Aces N Sevens mare Bring It On Home, competes for the interest of Ronald Harris. Trained by David Carey, she paid $5.50.

The Three-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Pace went to Cowboys Dont Cry, going wire to wire in 1:55.3.

Kicking two-lengths clear off a :28.2 opening quarter, Cowboys Dont Cry advanced to the half under pressure from Ryans Allstar, parked from the start, in :57.1. Regaining his two-length lead as Ryans Allstar faded and clogged the outer flow, Cowboys Dont Cry hit three-quarters in 1:26.2, with odds-on favourite Mick Dundee circumventing cover and starting to reel in the leader. Cowboys Dont Cry held victory by a neck as Mick Dundee challenged late, while pocket-sitter Dixie Flyer finished third.

A gelded son of Brandons Cowboy, out of the Rocknroll Hanover mare Mall Shook Up, Cowboys Dont Cry races for owners Reginald Mac Pherson and David and Aaron Mackenzie. The Kevin Maclean trainee won his fourth race in 28 starts, earning $21,952. Driven by Corey MacPherson, he paid $6.40 to win.
