Filion Doubles In Gold Events
Driver Sylvain Filion has taken home more gold in recent weeks than the card carrying members of the gold panners union in the Yukon.
He nabbed three Gold divisions last week, and he nabbed two more during Monday’s 10-race card at Mohawk Racetrack.
Yaris Bayama was an upset winner for Filion in the lone $126,600 division for the three-year-old pacing fillies. The three-year-old daughter of Sportswriter-Lucky Josie was treated to a ground-saving trip in what turned out to be a wild affair.
Dudesalady laid down the opening quarter in :26.1 before being overtaken by heavy favourite The Joy Luck Club. She sped through middle splits of :53.4 and 1:22.3 while being prompted along by the parked out Fade. Yaris Bayama found clearance in the lane and when she did she kicked home in :28.1 to win by 2-1/4 lengths over The Joy Luck Club in 1:51.2. Dancing Shadows K was third.
Sent off at odds of 6-1, the Stephane Larocque trainee won for the second time this season and for the seventh time in her career. Bayama Farms of Saint-Andre-D’Argenteuil, QC bred and owns the career winner of $372,968.
Filion also found his way to victory lane in the first division for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings with Histoire Enchantee, who overcame Post 10 to win for the third straight start.
The Maxime Velaye trainee, who was sent off as the 9-5 favourite, carved out fractions of :26.4, :54.3 and 1:21.4 before finishing off his foes with a final quarter of :29. The margin of victory was a neck over Bills Fella, with Saulsbrook Lanny a bang up third. The time for the mile was 1:50.4.
Guy Corbeil of Mirabel, QC bred and owns the gelded son of Shanghai Phil-Eclatante who improved this year’s record to 6-2-1 from 13 starts with the win. The seven-time winner pushed his lifetime earnings over $80,000 in the process.
Dreamfair B J denied Sylvain Filion the sweep of Monday’s Gold divisions thanks to his come-from-behind score in the second division for the three-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
The Pat Fletcher pupil, who was handled by Louis Philippe Roy, got away in mid-pack and watched as Tymal Peacemaker, Sports Column and Rebellious take turns on the lead through panels of :26.2, :55 and 1:22.2. Roy angled his charge off the rail in the lane and the gelding powered home in :27.3 to win by three lengths over Tymal Peacemaker in 1:50.3. Tigers Way was third.
The homebred son of Big Jim-Dreamfair Orchid now owns a 3-2-3 record from 15 tries this season for owner/breeder John Lamers of Ingersoll, Ont. He’s stashed away in excess of $108,000 this year and more than $141,000 to date.
