Canadian Leaderboard Update
Trot Insider has shared an update on the drivers and trainers leading the national standings at the three-quarter mark of the calendar year.
Trevor Henry vaulted to the fore in the earnings race in the past month after sitting second behind Doug McNair. The Arthur, Ont. resident has amassed $4,717,581 in Canadian purse earnings, while Louis-Philippe Roy ($4,706,092) and McNair ($4,573,731), the leader a month ago, remain in the top three.
Roy, a narrow runner-up in the earnings column, is a clear second behind Bob McClure in the wins column. McClure was recently crowned the leading driver at Grand River Raceway for their just-completed 2017 summer season. McClure, who also claimed top honours at Georgian Downs this summer and sits atop the standings at Flamboro Downs, added 49 wins to his tally in September, giving him 382 on the season to date. Roy (304) and McNair (243) round out the top three.
In terms of percentage, Maritime horseman Marc Campbell remains dominant in both the driving and training ranks. Campbell’s UDRS of .471 tops Guy Gagnon’s .420 rating as well as Brandon Campbell, who sits third at .386. Similarly, his .552 UTRS easily outpaces Brandon Campbell (.422) and Yves Tessier (.422), who are tied for second.
Trainer Richard Moreau’s stranglehold on the Canadian wins and earnings charts continues, as it has for seemingly the past few years. The Puslinch, Ont.-based trainer sports the most wins (202) and earnings ($2,741,630) among Canadian conditioners thus far this year, took top training honours at Grand River Raceway (led in wins, finished second in earnings) and Georgian Downs (in wins and earnings), and currently sits atop the trainers standings at Flamboro Downs (leading in wins and earnings) and the WEG circuit (leading in wins and earnings).
Moreau leads Travis Cullen (104) and the aforementioned Marc Campbell (99) in the wins column, while the powerhouse stables of Ron Burke ($1,605,272) and Jimmy Takter ($1,384,768) overtook Cullen ($1,334,899) for second in purse earnings with productive September stakes campaigns.
All statistics include Canadian starts from January 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017.
