Truro Raceway treated its fans to a stakes-filled program on Tuesday, with eight of the 12 dashes dedicated to the stars of the Atlantic Sires Stakes

program.

Here’s a recap of what transpired in each of the events:

Two-year-old Pacing Fillies - $9,600 “A” divisions

Trainer/driver Darren Crowe clicked with Charlottes Coast in the first of the co-featured “A” tilts for the freshmen fillies. The Coastocoast Yankee-Charlottes Xena lived up to the first half of her sire’s name as far as a tactical approach was concerned, and her :29.2 final quarter was just enough to hold on for the half-length triumph over C H Yocoohno in 2:02.1. Howmacs Quicktempo tagged along to finish third. Dan Belliveau and Justin French of Halifax, NS share ownership on the youngster, who owns a 2-2-0 record and more than $15,000 in earnings in four starts.

Another daughter of Coastocoast Yankee, Seawind Allegra, took home the hardware in the other split. The filly, out of the mare Seawind Alpha, survived a first over trip for trainer/driver Danny Romo en route to posting the maiden-breaking win in 2:01. Meridian Magic was next best and Western Swinger rounded out the top three. The filly has banked just over $10,000 in three starts for partners Kevin Dorey of Lower Sackville and Gary Ross of Baddeck, NS.

Three-year-old trotters - $5,760 divisions

It was a maiden-breaking score in the first split for Maple Leaf Quix, who rallied from off the pace to win by three lengths in a time of 2:03.4 for driver Mike Stevenson. The daughter of Black River-Maple Leaf Legacy easily turned back A C King and Dunmore Laird for breeder/trainer Ralph Annear, who shares ownership on the filly with Steven Sorrie of Sturgeon, PE.

The thirteenth lifetime start proved to be a luck one for West River Tigger, who visited the winner’s circle for the first time in his career following his 2:05 triumph in the second division. Bred, owned, trained and driven by Clare MacDonald, the son of CR High Sierra-West River Noreen rallied to win by a quarter-of-a-length over Rustico Silverstar. Windemere Power set the tempo and wound up finishing third.

Two-year-old Trotters - $5,520 divisions

The opening split went to Mike Stevenson and Diamond Mine in a time of 2:10. The son of PJs Nabby-RRR Diamond enjoyed a two-hole trip until the head of the lane before pulling the pocket and driving away to a nine-length score over Dusty Lane Toby. Hopedale Brandy set the pace and held for the show dough. Russell Newman of North Sydney, NS owns and trains the gelding, who won for the first time in three tries.

Walter Cheverie went gate-to-wire with Red Pajamas in the other division. The 2:06.1 effort was the third consecutive score for the daughter of PJs Nabby-Rose Run Frances, who won by more than two lengths over Scarlet Patti and B J Eldorado. Trained Blayne White co-owns the filly with Sandra White of Belle River, PE.

Two-year-old Pacing Fillies - $2,500 “B” divisions

Waterside Kicker took over command past the quarter pole and never looked back en route to posting a 2:04.1 score for owner/driver Hilliard Graves in the first tilt for the freshmen filly pacers. The Marc Campbell trained daughter of Harrods-Kickin In won by more than two lengths in her pari-mutuel debut over Two For Three, while third prize went to Two Seven Two.

Hey Jean also lost her maiden status thanks to a nine-and-a-half-length romp in the other division. The daughter of Toofunnyforwords-Palma Panic rolled through panels of :29.4, 1:00.4 and 1:32 for trainer/driver Kenny Arsenault before cruising home to win in 2:03.4 over Ammon Darcy and Royal Fit. Blair Hansen of Charlottetown, PE bred and owns the youngster, who was making just her second lifetime start.
