Gagnon Dominates At Rideau
Trainer/driver Guy Gagnon was a force to be reckoned with on Sunday night (September 17) at Rideau Carlton Raceway scoring wins in six of the 13 races.
Gagnon drove his fifth winner of the night in the co-featured $6,800 Winners Over Handicap Pace as favourite Nobettorplacetobe ($6) made his move in front of the grandstand from sixth and took the lead from pacesetter Skyway Boomer into the final turn. The five-year-old son of Bettors Delight notched his second straight victory in 1:52.2, pulling one length clear while Stonebridge Beach edged out Skyway Boomer for the runner-up honours.
Owned by Ecuries Guy Gagnon Inc., Gestion Louis Latulippe Inc., and Gestion Bruno Blouin Inc., Nobettorplacetobe has won nine times this year and 21 races lifetime.
Gagnon also drove Sunday night winners Sports Lightning ($4.10) and Sadiq Hanover ($20.50) for the Jamie Copley stable as well as Chosen Hombre ($9) for Steven Leroux and Wings Of Ballykeel ($7.60) for Sylvain Cote.
Rideau's leading driver wasn't in the sulky behind Unabating ($12.40) for the gelding's win in the $6,800 Winners Over Handicap Trot, but celebrated as the winning trainer. Richard Simard drove the nine-year-old son of Broadway Hall to victory in 1:56.2 for Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, Que. After getting away second-to-last, Unabating began his march during the second panel and confronted Euro Classic after the favourite touched down on top. Unabating wore down Euro Classic as they entered the stretch and won by one length over Raising Richard, with Euro Classic finishing third. Gagnon was aboard last week's winner Commissioner Daley, who led early on but faded to last.
Unabating notched his third win in a row following back-to-back scores at Hippodrome 3R. The career earner of more than $300,000 now has eight wins this year and 41 in total.
