Danny William Upsets At Inverness
Danny William ($12.20) gave the upset players a little more scratch for their levis on Sunday (September 17) at Inverness Raceway, as the eight-year-old Mach Three gelding sprang an upset in the track’s $1,100 Winners Over Pace.
Dispatched at odds of 5-1, Danny William started the tilt from the rail for his trainer/driver, Alexander MacNeil. The duo was the fastest down to the quarter pole, in which they passed in :31.1.
Danny William was under pressure through the middle half of the mile, as the post time choice, Cam Cool (driven by Alex MacQuarrie), raced overland against him through the 1:02 half and 1:31 three quarters.
Although he took pressure the rest of the way, Danny William refused to throw in the towel, as he hung on to post a neck victory over Cam Cool in 2:00.1. PH Showboat, who raced third through the mile for driver Lewis MacDonnell, finished third and was beaten by a half-length.
Danny William is owned by Kevin Gillis of Windsor, Ont.
